Spiritual Spreads. They are never diagonal or mutual. And all of us have several Neptune Cards associated with our Birth Card and Planetary Ruling Cards. The main one is the direct Neptune Card in our Life Spread. But there is also a Spiritual Spread Neptune Card and we can also get the Life and Spiritual Spread Neptune Cards for our Planetary Ruling Card and Karma Cards. So, the entire list can be quite long in many cases. And it is very likely that you have met and been romantically involved with someone who was one of your Neptune Cards. One word that describes Neptune Card relationships is “unforgettable.” If the strength of a relationship connection were determined by how long its influence lasted, the Neptune connection would be the most powerful connection of them all.

Astrologically, Neptune is the highest vibration of Venus, the planet that generally governs love, sex, and marriage. With Neptune there is a sense of everlasting love that spans lifetimes. No matter what spread a Neptune connection is found in, the feeling or experience of it is always past-life. And with Neptune there is the feeling that, if necessary, one would make sacrifices on behalf of the beloved. If you fall in love with someone who is one of your Neptune Cards, it is likely that you will always love them and never forget them. We often hear stories about people who marry late in life to someone they had loved as teenagers or young adults. I can guarantee that most of these will have a Neptune connection involved.

But Neptune connections are not all good by any means. All energy in the universe is capable of a negative expression. And Neptune’s negative expression can be just as powerful as the positive. Here we have things like deception and codependence, along with the victim/savior complex, and finally, addiction. The person receiving the Neptune energy in a Neptune connection is like someone who has just taken a powerful drug. They can be easily deceived by their Neptune person. They can be duped into things they would normally never do, on account of the power of their Neptune-induced experience. For example, if you are my Neptune Card, I will project onto you all my secret dreams and desires. I will see a fantasy version of you that fulfills some of my deepest longings, sometimes longings that my own conscious mind is not even aware of. For this reason, I can become addicted to you, thinking you are the one and only for me, and that I absolutely need YOU to have any happiness in my life. You can see how this point of view can be damaging. And like a drug addict, I might do anything to have you or keep you in my life. This in spite of the fact that you and I might not even be compatible!

I myself experienced this firsthand. I met a lady when I was in my thirties with whom I fell in love. She was a 2♦ Planetary Ruling Card, which is Neptune to my 9♠ Karma Card. I went for it with her with everything I had but in the end, she left me and broke my heart. It took me seven years to stop thinking about her every day; it took that long to search within myself to find out why I had become that addicted to her. I did finally gain some self-understanding and freedom from that addiction to her, and although I never forgot her, thankfully I moved beyond that addictive desire. Over twenty years later I was single and sincerely looking for a life mate when she magically appeared in my life again. This time she fell in love with me. And I still loved her. And now we are married. I could go on and on about how I feel about her. And we are in some ways not that compatible. But here we are, married. That’s the amazing thing about Neptune: the feelings never die. They are as constant as constant can be. And in the end, isn’t this what we are all looking for? A love that never dies?

I was recently doing some research on celebrity couples. I came across Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. These two met on the set of the movie, The Place Beyond the Pines. I was searching to see if they had any Moon connections. It turns out they don’t. But they do have a powerful Neptune connection, from Ryan to Eva, along with a few other important ones. It is easy to say that Eva, who is a Pisces 5♠/6♥, and generally is not going to settle down with one man, has found her dream guy. Ryan is a Scorpio 8♠/10♥/Q♦. And his 10♥ is not only her first Karma Card, it is also Neptune from her 6♥ Planetary Ruling Card. The attraction here is mostly on her end. Ryan is her drug. Fortunately for her, he is fairly marriageable. And the fact that they are compatible Sun signs helps too. Right now the gossip magazines are full of stories about how romantic these two are together and what great chemistry they have on screen. I am not going to predict how their relationship will turn out, but I can predict that Eva Mendes will always love Ryan and always be in love with him.

When you meet someone who is your Neptune card, fasten your seat belt! The power of this connection will take you on an experience that may change you forever. And as Kahlil Gibran says in The Prophet, “For even as love crowns you so shall it crucify you.”

Love that is the most powerful will teach you the most powerful lessons of all. And it is for this reason that we must respect and be mindful of the power of Neptune connections.
